Time to "clean up" my Facebook friends listJuly 19, 2019
Time to "clean up" my Facebook Friends List By Le Blog d'Edwidge- Dear Facebook friends: I am a big user of Facebook. I normally find it fun and interesting. I have relationships with people now that I probably wouldn’t if I wasn’t on there. Unfortunately, there is a flip-side to this that has been rearing its ugly head lately, and it has gotten to the point where I need to address it. It seems like the debating on some things has gotten crazy. Now before everyone calls me a hypocrite, I know that I have engaged in this also. I have tried to be respectful when having disagreements on someone’s status and even apologized if I thought for a second that I hurt or offended someone. It does seem like I am not getting the same respect back to me, though. My page, statuses, pictures, or posts seem to be open game for opinions, even to point where either me or someone else on the string is getting attacked. Sometimes, even if I have asked for someone to back off, they continue to come at it harder with no sense of remorse at all. It’s time to stop it. I have tried to hide people so I don’t see their inflammatory status posts, or ask them politely to back off on commenting on mine. I have tried to lighten up and ignore it, and I can’t. I want to stay on Facebook, because I believe it is still fun and shouldn’t be a ball of stress or fights. That leaves me with “de-friending” people. I have been “de-friended” before. Clearly, whoever “de-friended” me has their reasons. To de-friend someone after a disagreement is, in my opinion, the equivalent to hanging up the phone on someone. It says “I am not interested in anything you have to say, so I am out of here.” I just don’t have time for that anymore. That being said, I am going to be cleaning up my friends list. I am going to make a real effort to avoid engaging in debates, or comment on someone’s status, meme, post, or blog that I disagree with. I am just going to move on, and hopefully people will start having the same respect back towards me.
